Save the Date, May 15, 16 and 17, 2009 – Greenway
Bicycle Festival
Homestead Main Street in downtown historic
Homestead, Florida, is proud to present our first
annual Greenway Bicycle Festival, a unique three day
event that will celebrate all varieties of bicycling
skill levels. What better location than Homestead
where bicycle safety routes, established in 1962
under the auspices of the Dr. Paul Dudley White
Bicycle Foundation, sparked interest in bicycling
safety and bikeways in communities nationwide. In
keeping with that history, Homestead Councilwoman
Judy Waldman initiated the Greenway project, a bike
path connecting Everglades National Park to Biscayne
National Park. Today the first phase boasts a 42
mile fat tire bicycle ride.
If you are a business or club that is dedicated to
the bicycle enthusiasts we would like to enlist your
assistance in getting the word out. In addition we
would like to offer you the opportunity to
participate in whatever capacity you prefer, please
see attached form.
Planned events include The Park to Park Greenway
ride, running between Biscayne National Park and
Everglades National Park, 42 miles of fat tire
biking; The Schnebly Winery Ride; the
Homestead-Miami Speedway ride, the Key Largo ride
and an evening concert in Losner Park on Saturday
with an exciting array of talent, plus breakfasts
Saturday and Sunday provided by our local Main
Street organization. There will be an outdoor vendor
display on Saturday afternoon in the historic
district with manufacturers, bicycle shops and
promotional companies geared towards the sport. That
evening a live concert on Losner Park stage will cap
off the evening’s entertainment, free to the public.
